The night shift
Most support teams are closed more hours than they are open. What happens in those hours decides whether a customer trusts you, because it is the moment they most need a straight answer and are most likely to get a maze.
Hours the widget knows
A desk sets its hours, in its own time zone. Inside them the widget shows the teammate on shift and rings the team when a customer presses Call. Outside them it does not ring an empty room. It says plainly that the team is away and when a person will pick the conversation up.
What the assistant does
It answers what your own pages answer, with the source shown, signed as the assistant. It offers the calendar, with the next open times in the customer’s own time zone, when the question needs a person. It takes a bug report or a callback request on a form, attached to the contact. And when it cannot settle something, a billing dispute, an angry customer, it says so and stops, rather than trying one more rephrase.
Never Chloe
The assistant is never given a human name, a photograph or a shift. A customer who asks whether they are talking to a person is told the truth. The reason is not only honesty: a customer who finds out at 3 a.m. that Chloe was a model does not come back at 9.
The morning
Whatever the assistant could not solve is on top of your queue when you sit down, with the whole conversation attached and the customer told when to expect you. Bookings made overnight are in the calendar. Nobody repeats themselves, and the night was not lost.
